My Rooster with deformed vent, Please Help!

Never heard of a constipated Hen or Roo! How exactly does the vet "help him poop"? I agree with most replies about his diet. My flock eat layer pellet feed, has a flock block to peck at & 2-3x a week I will hang a cabbage or corn cob but that's for 7 chickens to peck at, so you have to consider how much everyone is getting. My section with 4 chickens get 1/3 of a cob. Adjust treats accordingly. I only give a handful of mealworms or scratch a few times a week to several chickens, so everyone really only gets a few.

He is not going to like the change in diet with less treats at 1st, but it will be healthier for him & may be the cause of his issue. You're not going to know until you try it.

He definitely needs some probiotics so either get some from Tractor Supply or offer him a teaspoon, yes just a teaspoon, of plain, no flavored with sugars, just 1x a week. On a different day you can put 1 teasp of apple cider vinegar per gal of water in a plastic waterer, not metal, vinegar & metal do not get along.

He needs to get his entire digestive system working correctly, and that starts at the beak end of the bird...please try this, and what comes out the other end should return to normal. Keep us posted & let us know, hope this helps.

Sounds like he's not able to get normal chicken feed, that's why he's feeding all that stuff to his rooster or chickens.

Since his birth and during his early years, he was normal, he was sick twice but he was treated with medication quickly

• Was he treated with Sulfadimethoxin when he was ill?
• Sulfadimethoxine can lead to crystalluria if given for too long or not following the exact instructions for dosage.

Thank you so much for your advices Abriana,hysop,Eggcessive and Liz Birdlover , Yes I love him so much that I feed him everything and buy him a lot of things to eat and also new hens because he becomes happy when he sees new chickens, It will be difficult for him because he been used to eating these things for years but I'll stop feeding him all of these things that you mentioned and I hope he will heal soon, but even so, he needs a operation to improve the shape of his vent to look natural, If someone has a website for a chicken specialist doctor to communicate with, to see if it is possible, please send it to me by message. The first disease was swelling of his chest and both side with water, which became as if he was filled with water, but after I got medicine from a veterinary doctor within 3 days, his body began to return to normal. Within a week he became normal as it was

The second disease is lethargy, inability to eat, and sticky fluids coming out of his mouth

The medicines as I remember antibiotics + vitamins doxycycline and amoxicillin full name i don't remember it is a powder to mixed with water, Thank you LaFleche

We don't raise chickens and other animals to eat them when they become fat, we have not and will not slaughter an animal that we raise we never eat our animals and we can't do it, I feel vomiting just when thinking about it, also and we not sell them, Maybe there are feeds that I don't know make fat chickens, but when they become fat, they become less active I don't aspire to fatten my animals, but I want to make them happy. only I made a fatal mistake when I fed my rooster things that were not suitable for him as the members on this site mentioned, but I will try to fix my mistake.

-wheat
-sorghum
-corn
-pellets
-rice and sometimes it is stewed (but I will stop giving them the rice)
-Tomatoes, onions and grapes and pomegranate and lettuce when available and other fruits in the summer and sometimes we offer them cooked food and they eat it greedily, Thank you Tonyroo

As long as the vent is functional and not inhibiting him in any way I wouldn’t risk surgery. Surgery could be fatal to any animal. Personally I would go ahead and restrict treats and see how his poop begins to change and after a month, if he is regular and not constipated then no surgery is necessary, but if he’s still having trouble then I would go ahead look into surgery.

Where are you located? We don’t need exact location, but maybe a State if you live in the USA or a country if you live outside the USA. That way we can better see what is available in your area.

Sorry I sometimes forget people on this site are all over the world...not sure Tractor Supply is, sorry about that.

Before, in the old days, when pellet feed wasn't even invented yet, people fed their chickens cracked corn, grains, scratch, squash & let them free range for insects & pecking greens, chickweed, etc. So if pellet feed isn't available, the chickens can eat other things, we just try to make sure they get proper nutrition.

I don't know what part of the world you're located in, so I don't know what is available to you, therefore my recommendations may be worthless.

You have other chickens as well? So are these pets? Are the hens for laying eggs? So if you have other chickens, you can compare vents & see what they should look like, and if you say it is deformed then it must be different looking than the others. I don't know if you could take a photo & show us, too.

I feel bad for you & your Roo, and I don't want to give wrong opinions or worthless advice.
