Hi everyone, I am new here.
I have a small coop including two hens and a rooster. The rooster's crow is very annoying since he crows a lot. I have heard about the NO CROW collar, but is there any other solution to stop him from crowing at least in the dawn?

BTW, I was told by a villager that smearing the comb, wattle and anus (excuse my vocabulary) by olive oil for three or four day will make him stop from crowing.

Any help?

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to BYC! Roosters crow, it's what they do. The collar may muffle it a bit, but it doesn't stop it, look on Youtube for videos of. I like hearing my rooster crow. If I didn't, I would not be keeping him.
Good luck!

Thank you dear for your kind reply. The problem is that, the neighbors are bothered by the noise and I want him to keep his mouth shut at least until early morning :D
I hear that changing hormone may make him crow a lot. Mine is unusual; normal roosters crow 12-15 times a day; mine crows 15 in half an hour !

Same here. Mine crow 24/7 it seems like. But hey it's what they do.

I've never heard of a collar for a rooster so the only thing I can picture is like a barking collar! That just seems like over the top to me since technically you don't "need" a rooster.

Thank you dear, but there is a no-crow collar for roosters, I haven't bought it yet.
The olive oil therapy is a traditional one utilized in the villages in Kurdistan (Where I Live), but never tried that as well.

The no crow collar restricts the amount of air that a rooster used to inflate his throat and make the sound. They say you have to be careful to keep it properly adjusted. It's not just a set and forget thing.
My rooster is crowing right now, and it's still dark, he has been crowing for 2 hours. I'd say he often crows at least 15 times in half an hour.

I am pleased to meet someone from Kurdistan! What kind of chickens do you have there?

Thank you dear, I am pleased too to meet you guys here in this website. Yes, you are right about the no-crow collar. It seems that you have the same situation over there :)

I have typical Kurdish chickens and rooster, they are kinda naughty and lively always.

Well if the olive oil works, then let us know! It won't hurt to try (if he lets you apply it) At the least, it may help prevent frost bite.

If I was left without any other choice, I will do it and report you back, but I'll wait for others if they can help.

Thank you
