My Runners aren't very.. runner-y.

I know, hatchery stock isn't up to par with breeder stock. I just expected them to LOOK like runners. Opinions? They almost look like Cayugas

I have heard lots of complaints about the conformation and posture of the Indian Runners ordered from hatcheries (although there are good ones too I am sure!).
So when I realized I was going to have to order babies from far away because no one locally had Runner ducklings here that I could find anyways lol, it made me nervous that I wouldn't be able to view the stock they were bred from to give me an idea of their quality...and a photograph over the internet can't always be trusted lol
So I ended up going to a breeder who has top quality show stock and recommended to ensure that they had the correct build. I only wanted pets, but I really wanted the stereotypical Runner style...it was important to me since I can only own a few ducks...and I wouldn't have the heart to get rid of any that grew up not up to par! I'm a sucker for all animals!

Anyways, all the complaints I heard from disappointed Runner duck owners made me steer away from the hatcheries.

they dont look at all like runners but wow they are pretty i would trade you a trio of runners gladly for some of those if you were closer.

IMO, they look like runners.. maybe not show quality but they definitely don't look like Cayugas.. pretty duckies!

SOMETIMES they'll stand up straight, and that's all they did when they were little, but they've started hanging low since they've grown some. They're my buddies though, and I love em

My daughter named them after fruit. There's Raspberry, Blueberry (smallest one), Strawberry, Blackberry, Schnozzberry and Kiwi.
Don't ask. lol.

next time you get runners order from Metzer Farm in California theyre runners had great posture!

I see Runner influence in the shape of their heads and the length of their necks and bodies. Even show quality Runners don't stand up perfectly straight all the time. Commercial runners don't have the extreme shape of an exhibition runner, but in my experience they're better layers and have easier temperaments.
