My runt ranger at 5 weeks old (with pics, kinda gross looking)

He's not gross, he's just ... pre-plucked!

Did he start off fuzzy but then the feathers failed to grow in when the fuzz fell off? Is he otherwise eating, acting, pooping all right? You said he's a runt, do you mean he's growing slower than the rest? Do they accept him or do they pick on him?

I wouldn't knit him a sweater, but would keep him under the heat lamp until he bulks up a bit, then provide some nice simmering broth to make him comfortable...

Poor baby, He is cute in that 1st pic though. He looked like he could have pecked you in the camera lens. Good thing he didn't.

So the story continues.......................................................................

Your broth comment reminds me of the movie Harry and the Henderson where the big foot is watching outside a window while someone is putting a chicken in a bubbling stock pot and the guy outside is putting his plumb wife in a bubbling hot tub and the big foot thinks he is cooking his wife LOL too funny.

Sort of. From the time we took him out of the box at 1 day old, his fuzz looked different. The best way I can explain it is that it looked wet and rumpled, though he wasn't wet. Then it fell off and he was just feathering in vvvveeeeerrrrryyyy slowly. He only had wing feathers for a few weeks, now he's just starting to get chest feathers.

Is he otherwise eating, acting, pooping all right?

Eating, ohhhh yes. Shoves the big birds right out of his way. Acts normal, other than chilly. Pooping, who knows?

Grows slowly, though there are other small ones, just not QUITE as small. Maybe he just looks SO small because he's naked? And no, he doesn't seem to get picked on.

Oh, the light is staying on in the barn for everybody, it's cold at night. Broth? I don't think so. LOL!

Bless his heart

I still have the one in the house I was asking about last night. It made it through the night and so I have to have DH cull it when he gets home from work. Poor thing

Well, I'm closer now than I've ever been before to having seen everything .

please tell me that is a baby's hand on his foot in the last pic....

That's one gross looking chicken,,, eeewwwww.

HOW FUNNY! I didn't notice the hand in the photo until you said that. Yes, that looks like my infant stuck her hand in the way.
