My second try

Wow, absolutely stunning! I remember drooling over these photos when you posted the first time around.

So sorry about the loss of your hens, that's tough! But I love that you're taking that hard-won knowledge and giving it another go, your new chickens (and battle tested rooster!) will thank you for it!

Our chicken coop is a renovated 100+ yr. old pig barn, so I know the difficulties of working with an old structure, but wow, it's going to be amazing when you finish! Please keep us updated on your progress!

The inside of the coop is much like the outside walls. I am thinking about spraying (painting) with chalk. Here for centuries chalk mixed with water has been used to paint the houses as it is tremendous with the humidity. It would certainly brighten up the inside, which is a bit dark. Running power to it would be a hassle and I only go in the coop to change water, feed and collect the rent. We'll see.

Thanks,

Pete

I'm loving it! Keep us updated with pictures and other things you might want to share!
Europe's landscape rocks!
Hug from your neighbor.

At long last the coop and run are reroofed and all fenced. Hopefully it is marten-proof, but time will tell.

Here are a few of the roof rebuild...

All the gaps between beams and the stone walls were filled with mortar and rocks. I did the same thing with the framing for the run. It is completely covered in soldered 1cm square wire.

After I get past the chance for cold weather, I'll be getting my new birds. A nearby farmer has too many, so this time around, I shouldn't have to buy any, unless I want to.

Thanks for looking.

Pete

I'm thoroughly smitten with the coop, the run, the renovation, the location, and the gnarly-twisted-trunk tree next to the run! I'm in love. Go Pete Go!
