it's mainly just to try to keep the air cell on top, so it's less susceptible to damage during shipping. and if you're cramming eggs into an incubator and setting them vertically to conserve space, you set them the same way so that the baby can hatch correctly (if the air cell were on the bottom of the egg, the chick would have to twirl around and stand on its head to access it - or more likely, it would want to stay upright, which would mean it'd pip into something other than the air cell, and could drown or get stuck).

As someone already said the box is probably going to be every which way before it gets to it's destination, so no matter how they are packed at some point they're going to be pointing the wrong way.

I think I have figured it out, though... It may be that the cartons were in the box upside down, meaning, I pulled them out, righted them to open them, and they were upside down in the cartons. I don't know if that makes sense, but that's what I'm hoping happened. I'm all about giving the benefit of the doubt.... Now, I will let the little guys sit and rest, and then cross my fingers and hope for the best!!

Oh, and the hen does not put the eggs up on their ends, but when eggs sit at a resting position, the pointed end is usually down, hence the air sac forms at the fatter end. Nature is amazing that way!

Those boxes are tossed into a truck TOSSED the TOSSED on conveyors and TOSSED into another truck. I doubt anyone cares which way the label is facing when they TOSS the package

Oh Come On! That's the silliest excuse for a seller to have packed eggs upside down.
ANYBODY dealing with 'eggs for hatching' knows better.

You should have opened the box upside down.

I got a shipment of eggs yesterday, they were wrapped in bubble wrap and packed with balled up newspaper.
Four of the eggs were totally smashed and one was cracked.

Guess you just never know how they get handled in the mail.

I just got my first eggs, and they were each meticulously, individually, wrapped in bubble wrap, packed i n peanuts, inside a small box, which was then packed into a bigger box filled with peanuts, and ALL OVER THE OUTSIDE it said "Fragile!! Hatching Eggs!! This end up!!!!!! With arrows. "

When I went to the post office, which had called me to come and get them, the guy plunked the box down on the counter wrong side up. The lady next to me said "Oh! You have hatching eggs! That's so cool! " And the postal employee said "Oh, I didn't even notice!", as he righted the package.

My husband just told me he knew someone who worked for the PO who related how they took special joy in drop-kicking anything that said "fragile" on it.

Thanks to "bargain" who spent probably an hour or two packing them up, bless her.

Fifty four dollars is not much to pay for breeding a good bird, selecting the breed eggs I want, inspecting each one, wrapping them individually like they are Limoges, and sending them out to me. I was just happy, and, oh, so grateful, that they all arrived in one piece. I hope for this:
