My shipped roo :( **He didn't make it**

I just read thru this thread, too, and I'm so sorry for your loss.

I have the feeling that instead of this being eventually referred to as "silky syndrome," this will someday be referred to as "shipped rooster syndrome." There are a lot of people out there that just aren't chicken folk, think about it. I never minded the sound of my own roos, but I can remember a roo living next-door to me when I was just out of high school ... I felt like dressing and eating that thing every morning at 4:30am. It was like nails on a chalkboard. I'd guess some non-chicken folks might not appreciate the sound of a scared roo cock-a-doodle-dooing in a box while waiting to go off to it's next destination.

It seems too much of a coincidence that most of the complaints are about cockerels, and I'd think there's some correlation other than just sexual genetics. I literally WATCHED as my mailguy opened my porch door and dropped my mail inside ... the box marked "FRAGILE: HATCHING EGGS" was on the bottom. Is that really necessary?

Bottom line: people can be scummy. Bless you for trying so hard. If karma is real, you've got a lot of good coming your way.

I can't believe people who hurt animals. I get it some are annoying but still it makes me sick and sad.

Hi everyone
Its been a while since this was stated and I wanted to give a final update. My breeder, bless her heart, sent me another roo. This one is fairly young but very pretty. He made it through shipping very well. I was very scared after what happened to my little buddy. I just wanted to share some good news after all the bad news.

The voice of reason. I'm not sure what everyone thinks the Post Office did wrong here. They delivered a live bird which is what they contracted to do. The assumption that Post Office personell injured this bird in some way is just that, an assumption and one with no evidence to support it. I have shipped & received numerous birds over the years & have many friends that ship regularly. None of us has ever had a problem. IMO you bought a defective bird.

>.> This isn't really about the PO. Its was more about trying to save my little buddy that passed. What happened was a horred and animals, especially birds are fairly sensitive rather it be pressure from a cab or other birds beating it up a number of things can happen but I do not believe he was "defective".
