My sick chicken

I'm sorry to say we had to put Peepers down last night. She took a turn for the worst, was suffering. Didn't eat for 2 days so I tube fed, watered, medicated to just see it get skinnier, weaker, and gasping. I gave it morphine and it quickly and painlessly went to sleep.
Thank you all for your support and kindness it helped me through this.

On a better note: Thanksgiving morning my goose alerted me and wouldn't stop squawking till I came outside. To my surprise I found a pile of 20 eggs! They have been sitting on them too. Bantams are not to bright I guess in that department. It is too cold for hatchlings. Anyhow, to my surprise there was a baby piping from an egg. Since I found a couple dead newborns I decided to bring it in. Within 20 minutes while I watched it came out of shell (first time I have seen it first hand) Its SOO tiny and adorable! So I have a new life to care for. Weird how things work isn't it? A Thanksgiving to remember for sure. Here's a picture thanks again everyone!

Oh, I'm so sorry that she went downhill so fast. You really worked so hard to help her, and I'm sure that you were attached to her. She seemed so sick to be such a spunky little thing. Congratulations on your new chick.

Can you drive to, or find someone to drive you to the Turlock lab, it's only 30 minutes away, right? Necropsies are free in CA, so that's what I would do if I were you.

We buried her but that's a great idea. I did put her in a box so.. It being holiday I doubt anything happen till Monday. You think 3 days too long to do it? I have a car and Turlock is only 8 miles from me.

Call them and ask. If you drop her off they should have a preliminary report by the end of the day. If for some reason they are closed, stick her in the fridge and take her Monday morning.
