My sick chickens

I have recently acquired approximately a dozen chickens of several different breeds. One is a dark read in color I have had one of them die in the night of unknown causes and another that we put down because she didn't seem to have any desire to move and wouldn't eat, drink, or get up on the roosting poles at night. She also had runny yellow diarrhea. I took her out of the pen because the others were pecking at her and now I have a third hen that's starting to show the same signs as she won't come out fro under the nesting beds and doesn't see to have alot of energy. One thing I have noticed is that they all seem to get really fat when they start getting sick. Can anyone help me figure out what is wrong with my chicken. any help would be appreciated as I can't afford a vet. Thanks in advance.

When you say they "get really fat" when they start to act sick - is the swelling heavy and squishy (ie they are filling up with liquid) or is it more like they are filling up with air? Were all the birds sourced together or did you combine birds from more than one source? How long have you had them and how long after you got them was the first sign of illness seen?

The swelling in my chicken seems heavy and squishy. She has now started having runny yellow diarrhea and doesn't want to move. We've had these chickens for approximately 3 monthes and we lost the first one approximately 1 month after having them and the 2 a month after that. The chickens have been together all along.
