My sick Quail

Thanks again! I've made my order. I got coturnix quails! I have also had small Japanese quails. I would one day love to own California and Montezuma quails, their beautiful!

Also, sick quail can refuse to eat their gamebird food when sick. So I find that it is better to feed them what ever they WILL eat. Things like hard boiled eggs, warm grits or oatmeal, meal worms, just anything to keep them eating. They are small and can parish fast if they don't eat enough. I kept a sick Bob hen with West Nile Virus alive until she was cured, (8 months) on hard boiled eggs, peas in the pod and quartered peaches. Anything to keep them eating and alive while they are healing. :)

Yes, the Montezuma are gorgeous quail. They run wild around here....just love them! The Gambels run wild in our deserts too. I think their calls are the prettiest of all the quail calls. The would come to my bird feeders, when we lived down in the desert. They would come out of the bushes, single file, top knots bobbing. Just adorable!

Good luck with your baby. And if that is all she will eat, then let her eat as much as she can. If you have any vitamins, rooster booster or anything you can put in her water, that will help her. Oh, and probiotics if you have them. Human grade will work fine. Just dump the powder from one capsule in a quart waterer and mix well. Change the water out every day and make new daily.

Keep us posted!

Oh, and on the probiotics....don't use them when you are using antibiotics. Use the antibiotics first, and then use probiotics for one week after the anti's. :)

If she is bleeding around the vent, have you checked for mites? They may be bothering her and she tries to peck at it.

I hope she is on the road to recovery.
