Soooo, This same fish had a Major constipation poo/ maybe anal prolapse..(?) a few weeks ago, idk not the point. This fish (Pixie is her name btw) is a female elephant ear betta fish. She has recently developed dark patches that I thought could just be new patterns developing due to her relatively young age (Shes not a baby but shes less then 1.5 years) however she also seems to have a pretty nasty fungus or something that is mostly around her head and kind of looks like that nasty algae that is kinda slimy but not stringy (Its not green tho, its clear/white referencing for texture appearance) and it appears as some of her scales are flaking off. I think I will be putting her back in an isolation tank tomorrow (its too late to put her in today) and I'll take some pics to put up tomorrow. any diagnosis or possible treatment ideas would be nice. I might have to take her out of the sorority permanently if she keeps getting sick... (Sorta concerned about another of my bettas that has been getting lighter/brighter white scales on her back, I don't think its anything but while I'm posting something I might as well check (Shes the white/black and blue one)) I'll post pics Tomorrow

White patches are likely fungus. Could you provide more details, ie: water parameters, tank size and number/ breeds of companion fish, filtration, tank media and ornaments, temperature, chemicals you have used, how often you handle her and how, frequency of water change and methods, tap water ph, ammonia nitrate nitrite levels. That will be a start. And yes, good clear pics will be great. And absolutely, quarantine her asap and let me know the details on that tank as well. Sorry, all this detail is very much needed.

If you can't get the help you need here, try http://www.reddit.com/r/bettafish - they have an excellent community and are always very helpful

Now, for my advice, can I ask what kind of set up you have for her aquarium?

  1. Tank size
  2. water temperature
  3. filtration system
  4. pH, acidity, water quality testing
  5. food brand and formula
Also, post pics when you can of the fish and the set up

Its a 29 gallon tank with six bettas (Sorority, all female) and 10 Neon Tetras, temp is around 80 degrees constantly, I've got bio media and carbon in my filter that is a aqueon for 30 gallon tanks, PH is in between 6.5 and 6, Food brand is a mix of TetraFin Flakes and Aqueon Betta food and freezdried Blood worms every once in a while, In the tank, I've only used Ick treatment (but that was a while ago) Water dechlorinater, and aquarium salt sometimes. As for water changes, I try to do them every 2-3 weeks or so but sometimes life gets in the way and it gets delayed. The weird thing is that its only this one fish that ever gets sick (except for the ick, everyone got that) I'll get pics in the next half hour or so

Sounds like common fungus. The Aquarium store will have targeted medicine for it. You will have to treat the whole tank but to do that you must remove any carbon in the filter system. The carbon will absorb the medicine. Treat it as soon as you can. the fungus eats at the underlying skin.

Here’s the pics, I tried my best

thanks, I'll try that

If the other fish appear disease free then I would definitely quarantine your patient and do a 50% water change on the community tank asap using a conditioner and monitor them closely. 80f is ideal for bettas but a bit warm for neons, but they are tough as nails. Once the patient has been transferred let her rest for a day or two and keep her stress free. Use a 50/50 mix of fresh and tank water for her isolation tank and keep the temps stable. Discontinue adding nacl for now. (No salt) do you have an antifungal on hand?

Can you test for ammonia and nitrates/ nitrites? Being a bit acidic means those levels are likely low, but could spike during water changes. Is your tap water fluorinated? Regardless, it might be wise to do several more 25% changes over the next week as well but give them a couple days to get over the stress. Check your filtration for build up, but if it's clear and the whole tank smells fresh and little to no foam on top, plus no dead plant material or uneaten food etc -- then just monitor the tank.

Your water is a bit acidic. You might want get to get the ph between 6.8 to 7, slowly! Knowing the ph of your water supply would really help. Remember that stress is a big cause of disease and just about everything causes stress.

More to follow. I have chickens to attend.
