Hello,
The back of my white silkie hens head was pecked and now it has an injury on her head. One day I walked out to my silkie coop to let them out and after I opened the door is noticed that my white silkie hen was sitting down in the corner of the coop. I looked at her closer and I noticed she had a big bloody spot on the back of her head. I immediately took her inside and put her in a box with food water etc. After I put her in her box I wentered back out and checked that all of the other silkies in the coop didn't have any injuries. None of the others were injured so I went back inside. She seemed to be acting like she hadn't eaten or drank for a couple of days so I syringe watered her. I then put food up to her face to see if she would eat and she didn't so I decided to make a mixture of egg yolk and water to give her through the syringe. She happily drank it. Since then she it getting more active. We put Blu-Cote on her head. But I keep showing the water to her in front of her face and dipping her beak into it but she dosent drink by herself. I do the same thing with her food and she dosent eat it. I love taking care of her but I am behind on my school work. Is there anything I could give her to possibly get her better quicker/get her eating and drinking on her own? Thanks in advance :)
(She has a little bit of egg yolk on her beard:))

P.S. We trimmed her feathers around her eyes just in case that was why she wasn't eating and drinking by herself.

It was so sad she would happily eat and drink the mixtures I would feed her but never was mentally recovering. She never ate on her own. I even put her out with her flock to eat during the day hoping that she would see the others eat and she would do the same but there was no interest. Everyone else ate and she sat there. She would preen herself and make little noises with them but that was about it. Her head injury maybe was so very severe that she lost her ability to just function like a normal chicken. It was as though she didnt know how to eat anymore. She was losing so much weight on the egg and water diet though but I had no way of getting solid food in her. I've never had a chicken with this type injury. I now know that I could of tried to tube feed her and baby food maybe would of been an option. Anyway she was losing to much weight, starting to get wry neck and not doing well. I didnt want her to suffer. Sad though. I loved that girl. 😔💕

We were thinking that maybe a juvenile hawk had tried to get her but she was to big. We have no evidence of this. it was just a guess. The wound was quite bad. We were thinking maybe she got it from a male wanting to mate her by grabbing her head with its beak but I've never seen an injury like that from mating. Who knows. Thank you for asking though.

My guess is another bird cornered her and pecked her too much. I've seen meek birds just hide and get pecked. Silkies can be prone to head injuries from pecks. Sounds like you did all you could. It was just one of those accidents. :hugs
