My silkies won't go on their perches

I have 12 week old silkie chickens - 8 of them. We built them a ramp going up to their perches. They have 4 different square wood rods going across about 4 feet at different heights. I was told chickens love to roast. I put them up there and they completely hate it. They like sleeping all together on the ground in the shavings. Am I doing something wrong? I haven't built them nesting boxes yet and wondered it those are going to need to be on the ground or if they will go in them if they are a couple of inches off the ground. I love me chicks, but them not flying makes things interesting. Any help?

I read that silkies do not like to roost. My silkies don't roost.

Silkies don't roost. I had the same concern when I got mine, but others here will tell you that they don't roost. Mine has never roosted. She sleeps in the pine shavings right at the door to their coop.
