Today my 9 month old silver laced wyandotte died. We noticed about a week ago she was laying down and we picked her up to see what was wrong and she had pasty stuff all over her back feathers below her vent. The vent was clear of all matter though so no alarm with that. She also was drooling a lot. Almost to the point of vomiting water. We cleaned her off and put her back. She drank and walked around and seemed fine. The next few days she was back to foraging and eating and drinking just fine. Today, we found her dead in the coop on the floor. Don't know why? Any suggestions as to what might have been wrong would help. We don't want the other hens to get sick if she was sick. Don't know what to do. All the other hens seem very well and doing great. They have plenty of food, scratch grains, grass, bugs to eat in their run. Thank you.

I'm so sorry for your loss! :( could she have gotten into something bad. makes me wonder because of the drooling? is there anything around she might have gotten into?

Sometimes they get a blockage but it's past the crop so you can't do anything. That would be my guess, anyway.

Thank you for the feedback. It really makes sense about the blockage. She never had anything different that the other hens had so I don't think it was something she ate. Thanks again.
