My SL Wyandotte is GRUMPY

As chicks my SLW's were affectionate and would happily sit on my lap and be petted. Once I moved them out into the coop they were that way for awhile, but since I haven't yet gotten an outdoor kennel for them, they free range in my yard with supervision along with my other chickens. Well the opportunity to free range changed EVERYTHING with them! Suddenly they had no time for me. I am ignored for the most part, unless I am coming out with treats or feed, and about the only thing they have to do with me now is pull on my clothes when I sit in my lawn chair to let me know that they want another treat. I hardly get to hold them anymore but they aren't aggressive or anything. I have a little disabled GLW that is the same age as my SLW's but she must have had her genes messed all up because she didn't grow nearly as big, though she isn't a bantam. Plus she had been pecked badly before I got her and even though I've had her for about 12 weeks now she STILL has no butt feathers, and only a limited amount of feathers on her back. Plus her eyes had been badly pecked and she is blind in one eye and only has limited visibility in her good eye. She has always been aloof, ever since I got her, but she is docile too, for the most part. She can get nasty with the new babies though and bully them. I think it's mostly in part to the fact that she is disabled and doesn't want to be the lowest girl in the flock. But my girls are all good, calm, and my SLW's are starting to lay now. My one girl Annie has suddenly become VERY vocal in the last week or so. I do think it's just how the breed is. But I love my girls, and my boys too, no matter the breed. I chose SLW's for several reasons and I don't regret that decision. They are lovely birds and I am glad to have mine.

I have a SL and a Columbian, and they are both cuddly sweethearts. Both sit on my lap, and the Columbian purrs. I swear, she purrs. She stretches out her little chicken neck and lays her puny chicken head on my shoulder, closes her eyes, and purrs.

The SLW does not like to be picked up, but she jumps on my lap the minute I sit down. She preens me.

I don't think Wyandottes are known for being affectionate or cuddly, but much has to do with the luck of the draw.
