We were out working on a playhouse for the kids and decided to put the dogs up and let the chickens out.
They played around outside for about 45 minutes and then the babies (3 month olds) all went in to the run and would not come out, even for treats. The big girls went in soon after and stayed in.
I sat in front of the coop on the floor with some treats and they came out some. We heard a noise and then the chickens went into the run and looked up with one eye. So I looked up and sure enough there were two hawks circling in the sky. They were too far up for me to see what kind.
They stayed circling a bit, but then I closed the chickens back up and they left. That is a little scary for me. I have seen hawks and an owl, but not right over our yard. We are in the middle of the city. We almost decided not to cover the run, but I was a little nervous and decided to! I am glad we did!
I was happy that all the girls knew and stayed safe though! I am starting to wonder that the attack on the 3 chicks a couple of months ago might have been a hawk and not my dog. (BTW she got out while the chickens were out and ran straight to my attempt at a compost pile to eat the chicken poo! YUK! She was not even interested in the chickens.)
