I don't know what snoods are for, but I have a theory they are to hide the beak to make the girl turkeys not be afeared of being pecked. Anyone know what the purpose is?

LOL, I don't know... the minute a girl turkey gets a look at that big ol' hairy snood.... I'm thinking she'll run the other way!

A quick Google search of "turkey snood" turned up this....

Ha! Well I did better than the NWTF because at least I came up with a snood theory! They say it has no known function.

I think it is just there for display as a sort of barometer of a toms health and virility. All the different parts of strutting and tommish display take a lot of strength and endurance.
And that is one healthy tom

I've always believed the snood was designed to attract the female and intimidate other males. This guy wins both ways, I think. Wow!!!

it must have a purpose very little in nature is unintentional. And wow he is a handsome fella, good thing my poult cant see my comp or there would be problems.
