Oh I am so sorry, for you, your son, and your chicks. There are definately ups and downs to having chickens, but theres WAY more "ups". I hope you and your son feel better soon. Good luck with your other chicks.
Oh the poor little guy I hope he didn't feel to bad. Accidents can happen and it's a learning expeirience for all of us that's for sure. My son fell NEAR one of our older birds (three weeks) and just missed her because she moved quickly enough...but had it been one of my 2 days olds...I think it would have been dead too. He got tripped up from his shoe. Were just like...WHEW...that was close! My thoughts are with you and your son. I'm glad it happened quickly :aww
Reading your messages helps so much. He asked me this morning if I was still upset. I was honest and said I was, but that I was not angry with him. I am looking hard for some new chicks. We live in the boonies in Maine, so between the cold, kids, predators, etc, I want to make sure we have enough. (well that is what I told my DH, who felt so bad he gave me the green light to get as many as I want)
He is a smart guy and he knows my animal addiction, so not sure what he was smoking last night, but......
I am picking up a small bantam flock on Sunday morning. They are full grown and we are all excited about them.
Still, I really feel so sad for my poor little barred rock babies.
