My take on the garden coop (Lots o pics)

Thanks everybody! It's been a lot of fun building it.

Thanks for the tips on the hasps and spring clips and hooks as well. I'll head to the store tomorrow to see what I can find. The wood for the house is cedar (fencing material) and the flooring is a piece of remnant vinyl.

The coop is withstanding its first test tonight - the wind is HOWLING!

Thanks everybody! Coop's still standing and everybody is up this morning having fun.

Two of them slept in the nest box, how do you discourage that? I don't necessarily want to block access, because I do want them to lay in there, but I'm not so sure I want them sleeping in there and messing it up. Any ideas?

A roost that is a bit higher than the nest box would help quite a bit. Just check on them after dark and if anyone is sleeping in the nest box, move them to the roost. After a while they should get the hint.

Your coop looks great, but I have a question. Isn't cedar toxic to chickens? I hope I am wrong!

very very nice! I have a question; does your silkie walk up that ramp willingly? Mine don't seem to want to leave the ground, but maybe I have been enabling them?
