Ya know Cetawin, as I was putting everyone to bed tonight, I was thinking about you and Thor. How much you loved him and he loved you. I also thought about how much you and Thor were my inspiration to bring up just one rooster to be like Thor. Sweet, loving, mindful of the welfare of the girls he has been entrusted with. Gentle and considerate of their needs and feelings. At the same time, having room for me in his life as flock leader. In short, I wanted a near carbon copy of Thor's personality in a rooster of my own.
And do you know what? I did it! All because of the inspiration you and Thor were for me and my boys. In fact, I think I was a little too successful with three of the boys! They love me but seem to have real issues with my oldest girls!
As a result, they spend their days in a separate yard from the rest of the flock while Chief stands guard over all 19 ladies. (Yes, he's a very happy boy!
)
From the example that you and Thor set my dear, I've learned how to raise these boys with love, respect and genuine regard for each of their individual elements of personality. My crowning achievement to date has been Chief. He's as near perfect as I could ever hope to achieve. Especially when you consider how woefully lacking in experience with roosters I was when I first started down this road. Your stories of Thor and how he looked after you and the girls both, paved the way for me to try. Without your example, I'm sure I would not have had the level of success that I have. Frankly, I doubt I would have even attempted it.
Thank you Cetawin! Thank you again, and again, and again, over and over, for giving me that kind of inspiration and encouragement!
So you see, even though Thor is gone from us in body, his spirit lives on in the lives he touched in his own all to brief time on this planet. Surely these creatures are Angels among us. They already have the wings for the job after all!
And now Thor has his halo to go with the wings. When the time comes to transition from this world to the next, I so hope Thor is waiting at the bridge, for those of us who also loved him, though we never had the honor of meeting him in person.
I can imagine no finer greeting on this or any other plane of existence!
