My thoughts on the egg carton hatch method.

Not sure its the egg carton method that is the reason for the hip problem but in a way it may be. When my hatching tray is packed full leaving no room for the chicks to get off the eggs an on to flat ground I on occasion get chicks with that hip prob. It may be having to stand on top of eggs the first few hours or days creating that issue?

I think if you read my posts I said I'm not telling you to do it one way or the other. Just that drowning sounds like a humidity issue. I hatch both in a carton and on their sides and have success both ways. I did NOT tell you that you have to hatch in a carton.

Here are two times I told you to go with the method you choose. Never did I tell you to do it my way. Nor would I tell anyone to do it my way.
But you should stick with what you feel comfortable, I'm not telling you to do one or the other.

Like I said go with what you feel comfortable with

I have nothing else to say.

I think I get what you are saying, but do you have pic's to show? I want to make sure I am understanding it. I would like to try it with this set I have hatching next week. Thanks!

The title of this thread is...

"My Thoughts on ..."

I personally have great experiences with the egg carton method. That's my thought.

It just means that the people reading this thread needs to do their research and decide what method works for them.

That is true, but under a hen they aren't being rolled all over the bottom of the nest by the chicks who hatch first like they are on the bottom of the incubator.

I don't deal with chickens since I am a turkey addict and I have hatched many poults over the years on the wire screens but this year my first hatch will be put into cartons 3 days before the hatch. I use 2 incubators with one being equipped with a turner. The other unit is used for hatching. I will put the eggs in cartons for the hatch. If this cuts down on cleanup hassle and my hatch is still decent then I will be using cartons from now on.

Now....has anyone got a preference on using either styrofoam cartons or paper cartons?

I started out using the paper ones because I thought that maybe they would "breath" a bit better. I don't know if they do or not, but they've worked well for me and I've continued to use them.
