My turkey almost killed my hen. Final update - She's gone.

Yeah i have to agree with being very careful force feeding as it WIll stress her out more

I had a Speckled Sussex hit, and I mean hit, by a hawk. She was flipped over on her back and trying to defend herself and shrieking at the top of her lungs. All this happened in only the few seconds before I scared the hawk away. She had a badly bruised side and limped pitifully for over a week and not too badly for a week after that, but she healed up.

It might just take a good while to heal up. A tom turkey jumping up and down on you has gotta be hard on your system!

I hope she makes it OK.

Maybe double check her for injuries (although I'm sure you already have) and as others have said, at this point, hydration should be #1. Hang in there, and keep us posted.

oh and i would try apple juice mmmmmm has calories too since she is drinking still, also some times a fellow bird feeding next to them will stimulate them to eat, maybe bring a nice CALM hen into the house and put down goodies all around the sickly hen (does she have a name?) so she gets a demonstration on just how good that food is!

Her name is Penny. I have taken her outside yesterday afternoon and this afternoon to be with her sisters/friends. She just stands there while they eat all around her. Just now she started to take a kernal of canned corn and then dropped it, but that is the most interest I've seen in days, so maybe she's turning around. I'm going to try squashing some and putting some in her beak.

P.S. Tomorrow I will go into town and get apple juice and grits. Heck, I'd buy her a steak if she would eat it!

Yes..let us know..
