My turn for day 18! **Day 20 Update-Pips**

I just got home and so far the three pipped eggs are the same and nothing else had pipped. However, while sitting here typing this post I heard chirping coming from the bator. When I looked the eggs were the same so I guess someone inside an egg is singing!

Well, I have four Blue Orp/Buff Brahma's and one americana that pipped this morning. The first one was actually at midnight last night. That one is the one in the middle of this pic. It has doubled since midnight but they are all staying about the same. A lot of chirping going on but no hatching. Is this normal? I need to keep the bator shut right????? Talk about nerve racking!

Sometimes, it can take 24 hours. Just hang on and keep that humidity up in the 70's and bite your nails, LOL. Also, seems that that first pip takes alot out of them, so they take an extended nap right afterward.

Hi Zuni,

I would definitely keep it closed. So many problems can be created by interfering too soon. It is really hard to hold back but it is normal for them to pip and then rest a while. I would do your best to relax and just think about what will most likely happen tomorrow. I know I have learned the hard way by messing with them too soon. They can bleed out, and sometimes, even if they don't bleed, they still die from coming out too soon. If you think it is hard to wait, it is even worse to know that if you had only waited a bit longer you would have a chick. Some chicks pip and pop right out while other take their sweet 'ole time. The only time I help is if I see the chick trying to unzip and it's not making it through the membrane, or if it keeps making the pip hole bigger and bigger but can't seem to turn. I'm actually going through the same thing right now. Today was day 18 and I just unplugged my turner!

Well, you know if you want something to happen ask a question. I have been contemplating asking the question above for a few hours. I finally asked and then looked and there is a big hole and its starting to zipper around the side. That quick! This is the egg that pipped at 1215 am last night.

Thanks for the advice. I need to be patient!
