MY turn to rant!

My very first chicken was a work-a-holic when it came to laying eggs. She wandered into my front yard (from god-knows where) last year in April. So we put her in the back yard and kept her. She layed an egg EVERY single day from April till July. I knew NOTHING about chickens at that point...we didn't even have a coop. My neighbor bought me a bag of layer pellets to feed her. One night she was sleeping on the grill (it was closed, but still we found it very amusing) in the POURING rain, so I brought her into the garage to stay dry. A raccoon managed to squeeze under the garage door (there was a 2in gap at the bottom) and drag her away in the middle of the night. I was so upset....never thought I'd cry over a chicken!

Lol...we might be! Judging by your sig, it's pretty close...I have one more kid (6yr old twin girls and a 4yr old girl)....and a hamster instead of a tortoise!

Edit: Meant to quote chickmamawannabe....sorry for the confusion!

I could not believe this, when we got our ducks, one died within 24 hours. And my dh tried to breathe life back into the duck. I called the feed store where we buy the feed for our farm animals. They said bring it back, you can get another. So my dh had to go for something else and our son went with him. When they came home my dh had the replaced duck plus 2 more! He said he thought how cute they were and wanted one more to make it even. Then when he got there he would be leaving on lone duck. So dh got the last one too. He said he could not leave one duck. Who would go looking to buy one duck?

Wendy, your husband is a KEEPER!!! What a sweetheart! I can't imagine my hubby doing that, but I guess he's not a TOTAL cast-away...he tolerates my crazy hobbies pretty well, even if begrudgingly!!!

Chickmama.....I suppose I can say "used to" also....my darling daughters and their cousin let the hamster loose in the house a few days ago....have yet to find it. He usually eventually climbs in my bed at night (I SWEAR to cuddle), then I catch him and stick him back in the cage. I'm really not joking, either!
