My two factory hens first taste of freedom - UPDATE VIDEO UPLOADED!

They look so much better! You're right, you can really see how quickly their combs have reddened up. And, I love that the flock relationships have worked out and they're living happily with your other girls.

Daisy is adorable! :)

Aww, they're in heaven and you are an angel! So glad they're doing well and getting on brilliantly with your other hens. Thank you for sharing and really looking forward to your next update! BTW, how does one go about rescuing these darlings? After seeing your other videos I am fully prepared to get in t here and do my part. I just don't know how to go about it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks so much for sharing. They all seem to be getting along together exceptionally.

You have a special relationship with your flock, something folks who have never had their own cannot understand.
Daisy is beautiful and the footage of her going to sleep is awesome…

Looking foreword to the next video :)

I got into contact with a local who rescues them regularly, I live in Australia so I'm not sure where you could go. Maybe make a post on this website and see if anyone has any information? Or maybe google "Rescue hens [your area]" and it might come up with something? Or you could try contacting a cage egg place and ask to buy their hens that are not laying eggs anymore, you can save lives that way too. :)

I've been blessed the boyfriend who tolerates me hand raising my chickens inside, they live in my dining room until they are old enough to go out. I think that's how I get such a good relationship with them, if you are constantly giving them kisses and cuddles they come to expect it, or in Gabby's case, demand it!

My brooders:

Thank you for the suggestions! I plan on doing some research just as soon as this state of emergency passes. We're at the base of a wildfire at the moment but I saw the video you posted of those factories and my heart aches. I am embarrassed to say I truly didn't know this is how things were done. Thanks again for sharing. God Bless!

Hi, Mr Beaks (Jennifer}, What I did was Phone a poultry farm (egg farm) & ask them if they have any old hens that their getting rid of. They should let you have them for a few dollars. Every twelve months they get new fresh layer chickens & get rid of the old ones. That is what happens here in Southwest Victoria Australia. There may be a different rule over where you are. I would just make a phone call & ask & go from there. Just have find out what time of year they change their chickens. Good luck. Over here they change over in autumn (fall). It is spring here now so it should be autumn (fall) where you are. Look up Egg Farms on the internet & find one closest to you & give them a call.
