So, after doing a little bit of reading, I see that you have the programmer (transmitter) that you can link to any number of outlet/switches in order to turn things on/off.
So you've got (or you will get) the programmer that is set to go on, like you said above, 1 hour after sunrise and sunset with the "on" cycle only being 3 minutes. Are you able to set the timer/programmer to only be on for the 1 minute required to operate the motor/door or is the minimum time between events 3 minutes?
Lastly, do you know if there is anything wrong with using a usual plug-in timer to control the motor you have? This would mean that you'd have a good 15 minutes or so of "on" time before the peg for the 'off' cycle could click the timer off, if you know what I mean?
Thanks in advance for any information, sorry to have hijacked your post about your coop to ask questions!
I don't see any reason why you couldn't use a regular dial-type timer to control the door. Obviously it would mean adjusting all those little pegs every month or so as the days get longer or shorter. The motor turns itself off at the end of its cycle so you could leave power on for 15 minutes then turn it off. I read one review of the motor where someone said leaving the power on burned out the transformer, but it was only one review so who knows how credible it was. I believe the X10 controller can be programmed to 1 minute increments but the signals travel through the power lines in your house and from my experience sending too many signals too close together tend to lead to lost signals. That's why I'm thinking something like a 3 minute on/off interval.
