My very first egg today!

Thanks everyone and I am indeed as excited as one might think! There's no way I'm eating this one. Wish I knew how to preserve it without having to nearly smash it in order to blow it out.

Oh well.

Roosters went nuts again this morning so maybe I might have yet another on the way today

I just hope not as late in the day as the last one. How long can an egg sit out and still be safe to consume?

Congratulations! My blue copper marans hen, Bella laid her first egg this past week. She has given me an egg every day except one ever since. One of my black copper marans just started laying about 4 days ago and has given me 3 eggs so far. I am so proud of my girls

Both of mine are seeming to lay in the late afternoon and are not using thier nest box yet either. There are fake eggs in thier nest box but they aren't using it yet lol. I put 6 of the eggs in the incubator to see what would happen. I know they must be fertile because the roos have been mating the hens for at least 3 weeks now.

Honestly, I'd be gathering them up for the bator if not for the fact my roos are banties and despite their best efforts to mate the standard-sized easter eggers - I doubt highly that Boo scored one off on Auri or Moto XD I HAVE however seen them get the D'uccle girls several times lately. So when they too start laying I might bring them inside. Set them in a carton at room temp and wait for a few and try to see if anything hatches through my bator.

In the meantime - I'll be eating green eggs and ham XD

Here's hoping my girls lay as often as yours!

I've been absolutely refusing to eat any eggs at all the day my chicks arrived - that's 20 weeks of no eggs at ALL. Possibly longer because I didn't eat any while waiting for eggs to hatch (that didn't :'( ) prior to hauling off and ordering live ones.

She skipped a day but egg #2 is now in the lil egg cubby in my fridge

Is it safe to eat them when they lay them in mud as long as you clean it up asap and refrigerate? What do you use to clean them? I just rinsed with water and a lil bit of hand soap (since some of her blood also dried on it).

I just rinse them and use my finger to get mud and such off of the egg then dry and put in fridge, I am sure they are fine. Congratulations on your first egg.

For The Horde!!!! As far as saving the egg When I was a kid my grandmother showed me how to get the yolk out without much damage to the egg. Just use a pin to poke a hole in the top and bottom scramble the yolk up with the pin and start blowing into it. Then we would do the whole easter dye thing and then clear coat them.
