Thanks for this link, its one more affirmation of the awfulness of Marek's. What I've found indicates that it only stops the adverse affects of the disease but does not stop it from growing, in essence creating thousands upon thousands of potential carriers with every hatches vaccination if it were to be exposed to Marek's, basically everyone needs to use it or their chickens will eventually be exposed to and die from it. Think about how many people go into your local feed store, or any store for that matter that you frequent that owns chickens, it's carried on dander so blowing in the wind is a worry, consider any neighbor with birds a potential carrier. I encourage everyone to send their birds in atleast occasionally upon a death to keep an eye o flock integrity.

Yesterday I disposed of both of the most recent chicks that were effected by this new plight, each had passed rather quickly. After some quick research I found that incinerating the bodies was the best course of action, something I never thought I would do when I first got chickens several years ago.

Tonight hasn't ended much better, I blew the engine on my lancer coming up the hill and had to push it about a 100 feet into a turnout.

Gonna turn in now. Hope to update some upbeat stuff soon. Adios.

Just keeping it simple for now. There is another chick with symptoms, we'll see what happens.

All of your produce looks so perfect ... quite the green thumb you have. Don't you have any bugs, rabbits, or squirrels there who sample it for you?

thanks, always feel like I'm behind on the garden, never get things in early enough. No rabbits that I've seen in 20+ years out here. A couple of tree squirrels but not enough to be a nuisance. I used to have a really big problem with ground squirrels that had tunnels that sprawled the property, but they seemed to have moved on this year. Each summer has had its own flaws and setbacks and i think this season I finally have most of the bigger vermin in check. 6' Welded wire around the whole thing and hardware clothe lining the bottoms of 2' tall boxes. My biggest pest this year is my wood duck who's eaten most of my hot pepper plants. Ive used neem oil in the past on bugs as well predator insects like lady bugs and mantis eggs. It's been a process and I'm still learning as I go.

The kelso hen with the wounded leg isn't recovering. And now this morning her foot is turned in. I mostly likely am going to have to put her down. This is something that's only going to get worse. The younger ee chick is also on its way out. Both have been isolated since initial suspicions of illness for their safety as well as the flocks.

Ya it could take some time before we see a large positive change in the death percentage. I imagine I'll lose a few more at the least. Doing my best to take it in stride.
And yes tomorrow is the due date. Will be real convenient if it happens on my weekend. The anticipation is killing me.
