Yay!!!!!

OK ok ok. It's been 3 1/2weeks since the birth of my newest baby girl and I've had enough ohhs and ahhs. Seriously smitten though, with a face like this who wouldn't be

Baby and mom are both doing amazing and we are blessed with this new edition to the family.

I also mentioned blowing the engine to my car, it has since been towed to a scrap yard. The cost to fix it would be greater than its value to retire it.

The dresser is finished as well. Not very pretty but it's functional.

Still not enough drawers in the house, lol. I can only imagine when these girls are growing, the chaos of shoes and clothes that will be spilling out of their room. Ha!

Aside from the obvious family time I've been keeping up on the garden and fruit trees and just generally catching up on things around the property. Tidying up old projects and straightening up around the outside of the house so the birds dont get into too much trouble.

Still dealing with Marek's obviously.
I've incinerated almost a full dozen of the younger chickens now. Trying to make as many observations as I can during their declines. Interestingly enough Hermes who seemed only slightly stricken by this with a small amount of leg paralysis that passed returned not long after I moved him, but is now passing again. He and the ee have been the only lucky ones so far. Of those that Have exhibited symtems they are the only ones that havent died or are in a progressive decline.
Even the kelso hen that hatched out the chicks in the shed passed, and rather quickly. There was only 3 days of noticeable weakness before the end. On a side note her chicks and the turkeys are best friends now.

The 3 hens in the other kelso pen all decided to sit on the same nest too. That resulted in only two chicks. Sadly I found that one had drowned in the waterer recently. The singled out one is rather adorable running around in there with 3 moms though, weaving back and forth under their feet.

I'm gonna get this in now with more to follow up later. Busy busy busy.

I've come to find that it can take a couple months or more for pullet eggs to get up to a Medium let alone a Large size...except for those double yolkers.
Second season they get larger, and some of my 18 months olds are laying monsters about now.

for the most part I've come to notice the same pattern in my laying hens, Going from wonky to normal. Usually they are odd shaped

for a bit then right, then large so maybe. Its just uncanny how perfectly shaped they've gotten already. I'm certainly going to me watching her.

2 of my little feral chicks are in their way out. Maybe today from the looks of it. The older male theatd been limping around is in the cage with them too. Although better than his younger counter parts he doesn't have long left either.

On a positive note i thought my little bantam hen was gone. Looks like she's hiding a nest somewhere, I Keep seeing her early in the morning from the porch. Lol.

Holiday seasons right around the corner and the projects around here always keep me busy. For instance.

I fixed my mom's porch over my weekend. I still need to get a shot of it complete but this was half way.

More for later. Off for now.

Other than that,i torched another 3 young chickens and another is probably in line tomorrow. The Marek's is really running it's number on my seasons hatches.

Just gotta keep pushing forward.

:frow  I have lf Salmon Faverolles that lay eggs the same size as my bantam Brahma's eggs.

Very sorry about the Mareks. Glad you and your family are well.
at this point I'm convinced she will be laying these size eggs indefinitely. Always something new with chickens, haha.

Just wanted to share another quick pic of the wild ones out early Sunday morning.

The white sign to the right is just over waste high. This was a small group compared to the 30+ that are usually around. Perhaps they are starting to separate. Possibly the same 6 where in my back yard yesterday. Looked out the window and was like 'honey there's a turkey hanging out with the chicken's' upon looking out other sides of the house I found the rest moseying along the driveway. Getting quite comfortable.

I also finally moved the last 3 fibro chicks off the porch and into the hoop coop. Funny the work to finish that coop was so minimal and it's taken me so long. Quite alot of details to finish up on it and I'm not sure about its location but it's functional.

Torched another chick. Last of the visibly ill. The Marek's seems to be slowing down a bit, but I am aware it will never stop.

Chickens will always come and go it's just a matter of how the arrive or leave this space.

Always onwards and upwards

PS missed you @birdman55 glad your among us again.

One of my heavy breeds (haven't figured out which one) lays a small egg with a 2x thick shell and a very very small yolk. I think if it had a normal sized yolk it would be a normal sized egg...and the shell would be thinner since it would be spread out more. Anyway, been getting them since June when the pullets were 5-6 months old.
