my very own micro farm

3" piping, and I have pumps but they aren't in it yet. Still planning my next move with it. Waterfall, filters and what not.
Broke my drill bit and am no longer working on the pen :( and its a holiday any where I can get one is closed.....

If you can use your pumps to push the detritus towards the sludge drain, it'll help.
I tell ya, those koi people know how to keep a clean bottom, but it can get complicated to work without draining.

We'll see how it all goes. Decided to top off the pond yesterday after marking the waterline after the week of loss. Marked it again when it was filled to track it this week.

I should have done this from the start but here we are now. I'll make it every afternoon before I head to work for a week to follow its loss this time, which seems to have slowed over the last few days anyhow.

Here's the frame of qbert new outside pen that'll sit inside the main garden run.

I've gotten some wire placed and most of the siding cut to finish it up this morning. I'll get more pictures this afternoon and most likely get them up tomorrow morning. Going smoothly IMO and I know qbert will be happy with the extra space.

Pond is holding steady with only a few inches of loss a day. This is great news, forward progress and all that. Qberts new pen is almost done but the heat the last few afternoons gas been unbearable and now there is so much smoke I thought it was clouds and might rain, no such luck, gonna be 104° today.

way to go...i so wish i could be building and expanding....grrrr.

I think you just need to migrate west already;) not exactly what the birds do but who's keeping track right. There's still a few property's just sitting here across or down the road from me. As for the pond holding, as artt put it, the detritus did the work not me and im still not certain whether I'm going to seal it or not. I do know that the sealant would make it nearly waterproof. Now I'm thinking about plants pumps and filters. But that's for another day.
Glad your still kickin. And seriously do you remember the power glove. Life would be a lot easier if there were one for the real world. And for that matter what about the konami code.

Didn't do any work today on the pen hopefully tomorrow. Had an air advisory warning today on top of the heat. Its crazy how much smoke there is from a fires that aren't in county. Only just recently a fire started in Yosemite, we've been lucky so far this year, some bad ones have happened in the past and the drought doesn't help.
My weekend is almost here, hopefully the weather and the smoke lighten up a little by then. Man I don't remember the last time I had a Monday to Friday job, do people still do that, 9 to 5 also, that's a totally foreign concept to me. And at that mini rant I'm off.

Good to hear the water level didn't drop as far.
Ducks would probably ravage any plants.
Filtration is gonna be really tough, usually you plan that all out before concrete, to install piping.....
.....but I have one idea that might work.

The pumps are submersible and was planning on suspending them about halfway below the surface, these will feed a waterfall (that's yet to be built) and flow through gravel and sand to help clean the water. As for plants I was planning on caging up some stuff around and eventually in the water because yes my ducks eat everything as I'm sure most do but there should eventually be a balance.
Always open to ideas

Gravel and sand upflow is great for fines filtering...gonna add agitation/rinse component?
Big concern for you will be getting the duck poop out, will pile up on the bottom....you'll have to push it to the bottom drain to get it out.

they do make bags you can put your pump in to make sure no fine debris goes into the pump....fine micron bag...works great...you will need to clean the micro bag prolly once a month....meaning taking it out and spraying it backwards....def a must have..for the life of the pump
