Thanks. Healthy yes happy not so much. Only Getting two eggs daily right now. I'm sure all the intensity over the course of the last few weeks as well as adjustments to accommodations has something to do with it. Still looking for a few pullets to fold into the flock. I did manage to get my posts in today around the front garden. As well as getting the new boxes filled in. Still hopeful to have it finished for them in the next few days. Also working on hanging up enough old CDs to turn this place into a disco party. And it just dawned on me that if I make my scarecrows with wire I can change their positions to mess with the wild life.:)

I would be very interested in your review of how effective the cds are for the red tail, after you have them up for a while.

@Frazars Farm I will definitely keep you posted. I grew up with red tails around my whole life. Before chickens and now. They have always been pretty close but obviously that attack was to much. I'm certain it will be a combination of things that will deter the hawks I just hope I don't look like a crazy person in the process. That being said, stakes in and line got run today and I think tomorrow or the next day the netting will go up I'm the front. Once that's done all that's left is a gate or two and the chickens will have access to a bit more space.
I got ahold of some Swedish black ducks today. Super excited. Its crazy how things can just happen at the right time. @LittleBlu just happened to need to rehome them at the right time. Still a few months before she's ready to give em up but still excited and totally understandable. I would miss my birds too if i knew i had to let them go. Here's one of them.

Adorable. Hope they get along with the mallards OK.
Still just two eggs from the chicks. Lucy and Duecy, the wyndots. They are my hopefuls for broodies. Still looking for some young pullets bit I can't wait to see some little babies hatch from underneath a hen. Should probably set up a broody pen to accommodate at least one here soon, would rather be ready for it than caught off guard.

My ducks and chickens co exist but they are not housed together. Since I've confined the girls the ducks have been rather curious to the situation. The coop and run were shared at one time but now the ducks have a separate I unit next to their pond.

I did say " co exist " but that's tentative. if the chickens push to much the ducks push back. If the ducks push to much the chickens push back. Keeping them confined together doesn't seem ideal.
If you have a male duck he can also rape your chickens which can kill them due to a different anatomy in chickens and ducks.

Wasn't gonna go there but ya thats a possibility too.

Just read back through the posts, a month ago I decided to start this thread and there's a lot that's happened since. I'm definitely glad I did. Some good some bad but its all relevent. Thanks again everyone.

I got more of the bird netting up today around the outside of the front this morning before I left for the valley. Headed to a friends for the game. Yay go sports team let's score some home runs.... not so big into football obviously but could never pass up a good potluck. I'm still hopeful they'll be out in the front by Wednesday. All that's left is the top netting, fencing around the pump house and the two gates which I'll pick up the pieces for today.

Hope everybody's team wins. I'm off.
