My white leghorns is red. Help!

We just put some Veturycin on her with a cotton pad. Because it’s late now we will clean her with a warm damp cloth tomorrow.

Do we keep applying the veturycin to the scabs or take the scabs off?

After looking closely it looks like they pecked all the feathers on her one side of her face and hurt her comb a bit. The comb is what’s making it look so intense as it seems to keep bleeding a little and then she shakes her head and it flings blood all over.

This all happened today and her side of the face already has crusted over in some places. Is that scab or just dried. Look? Do we peel it off? I just patted the liquid on top.

Thanks for your help. We are clearly knew to this but I told my husband that I learned how calm I am in such situations. I would have never assumed I’d be able to deal with this 5 years ago for example.

Can you take some better pictures of her injuries now that you've got her cleaned up?
Just make sure you've thoroughly cleaned out and disinfected her wound. If during the cleaning process it starts to bleed again you can put gentle pressure on it with a non-stick gauze until it stops bleeding then dab some Vetericyn on it. Again, combs/wattles bleed a lot.

@DobieLover here are some better pics. Do I pick off all that crusted over area on her face?

She is eating and drinking and pooping.i have her meal worms this morning and she was thrilled. She isn’t making any noise which makes me think she isn’t stressed which is good. She keeps shaking her head though which isn’t helping her comb.

I wonder if we could gently gauze her comb/head?

I so appreciate everyone’s help.

Do not cover the wound.
I would use a wash cloth and warm water and keep gently working at the area until it is cleaned. Then do the same with her feathers. Treat the wound with a disinfectant.
I'm sure she is shaking her head because it is uncomfortable and probably hurts. Once the dried blood and debris is off the wound and it's been disinfected, it will start to feel better.
You can also apply a thin layer of triple antibiotic ointment to it after it's been cleaned up.

Be gentle, but thorough! She needs a good cleaning.

@ChickNanny13 thank you for the details. We have her looking way better but the one spot under her eye that was oozing the first night has scabbed and we are unable to pull it off it’s just stubborn and stuck on there. We never got ointment on the wound but have been applying it on the scab regularly. She is doing great and today we will transfer the cage back into the coop. We will keep her in the cage for a few days at least still.
