The other two doors, the side and front are only attached during the winter.
It is the summer set up you are seeing now. I need to take pictures of the 'Show Coop'
with the different seasonal settings. It can be shut up very warm and dry for winter.
And in the hot weather open and with lots of fresh air.
A Chinese guy who came out to buy chickens told me
how to 'sex eggs'.
A round egg = a Hen
and an elongated egg = Rooster.
Eggs which are in between 'round and elongated' are anybodys guess
and one needs to be 'an expert' to sex them,
but rather than 50% / 50% Hens/Roosters
The 131 chickens I raised last year I had
'mostly $15.00 Hens.'
And that is pretty good.
Real long eggs I just eat.
And since I know the round eggs will turn out to be Hens,
the in between eggs I hatch according to how much room I have in my incubators.
have you tested this theory yet because from what I know it is not true, but dont be surprised if that does not work, if it did I am sure the hatcheries would do it. But good luck and please let us know how it goes
Btw I have many hens that never lay a round egg they are always long so you might want to look into the fact that you are probably eating only one (or a few) birds eggs and maybe unknowingly narrowing your gene pool. As for my girls who do lay long eggs (mostly Brahmas and some silkies and all of my sg lay long as well) they hatch out 50 % boys and girls and I know this cause I have hatched many.
