My Yard

They would probably say no to chickens. I've actually started to think that I should hold off on having chickens until I have a house or small farm. The only problem is everything is so expensive. Nothing near where I live, farm wise, is under $300k. It would be impossible at this point to get a house or farm. And since we are thinking of having a baby sometime in the next year or two, we will probably be stuck renting for the next 3-4 years.

When I first moved away from home, we moved to a trailer park. And of course, chickens were not allowed, but I raised a few anyway. I kept 2 hens--a polish and a silkie mix. They were very quiet, and nobody knew they were out back. (The pen was hidden from view) I later moved out here to the country, and took my 2 hens with me.

And when I was a kid, I lived in a townhouse. I hatched chicken eggs, and raised the chicks until they were too big. Then we gave them back to the farm.

So, if you really want to have chickens, it can be done. Just find a way to keep them hidden. Like putting some bushes in front of the pen, or lattice board. Also, hens can be very loud if something frightens them. My quietest hen is an Old English Game bantam. She is tiny, lays eggs, and is never loud. Maybe you could look into some hens like that.

It can't hurt to ask your landlord. Landlords typically object to pets inside the house, and don't mind outdoor pets.

One of the playhouse coops would fit quite nicely in your tiny yard.
