If my young cochin hen lays small eggs and if I let her hatch some (she really wants to) will her chicks be affected by coming from a small egg?

Yes, they can have problems with adequate space in the shell. As a rule, you want to select medium to large eggs for hatching.

You can hatch pullet eggs but the chicks tend to be smaller and more frail.
