Hi I'm thinking about buying about 3 day old chicks from MyPetChicken.com and I was wondering if anyone had any experience with them? They sell quantities as small as 3 whicch is great because that's all I need.

I ordered chickens from My Pet Chicken, but I ended up canceling my order. Customer service was very nice over the phone, but the impression they give you on the site is that you can get the chicks shipped in one or two weeks. But after I placed my order, I was told they didn't have Welsumers after all. I changed my order to Ameraucanas, Faverolles and Speckled Sussex, and they told me my ship date would be in two months, because the Salmon Faverolles would take too long to get. So I changed AGAIN to just Ameraucanas and Sussex, and it was still more than a month.

As I said, I canceled at that point. This process of changing orders took about a week in itself, because they apparently had to check around to see what delivery dates could be with the hatcheries they work with. I decided that I could buy eggs and hatch them faster than I could get chickens from them. And considering that the surcharge for shipping less than 25 chicks is substantial, I was saving money to buy an incubator and hatch my own eggs. Not to mention the fact that I could get what I wanted, and the chicks would be less stressed from not having to go through the mail.

That was my experience. I'll say again that they were really nice at My Pet Chicken; my only complaint was that their site suggested the chicks would be delivered on the second Monday after you order (at the latest), and that is clearly not the case, at least with the less common breeds. You might be able to get RIRs or Orps pretty quickly, though. I also don't know how well their shipping method works with few chicks--if it works, it's nice to have that option to order just a few.

With mypetchicken website, they did say there will be a waiting period on certain breeds and one other hatchery is like that too, Sandhill Preservation. I can respect that and if I am willing to wait, then I will wait. If you are in a hurry, then other hatchery that can handle large amounts of chicks can do the job but have to order somewhere 15 to 25 chicks depending on the temps.

I am thinking about ordering from them and see how the chicks go. Shipping is less than having adults being shipped since they cost 40-60 dollars for ONE big bird to ship in the lower 48 states and some breeders will charge anywhere from 5-10 for shipping boxes. So it is not too bad but still cheaper than shipping adults.

Hatching eggs are not too bad but its varies on how many will hatch and how many will be pullets and how many you will have to cough up for eggs and shipping. By the time you purchase the eggs, hatch them out and get them started and wait for them to reach the obvious feathers of either sex, then you have reached that point that may have cost the same as buying and shipping chicks or adults shipped.

So it wont hurt to try.....and maybe there are some breeders in your state that might spare some for you.

i just ordered 3 chicks from them and i was wondering, did they send you an e-mail saying when the chicks would be shipped? And they send the chicks to the post office for you (me, person recieving chicks) to pick up, right? sorry i have never had chickens before and i am very exited and can barley wait.

I didn't get any word from them when I first placed my order (for which they profusely apologized), which resulted in my going down to the post office to wait for my chicks.

Their site says, I think, that they'll send you an updated email with an arrival time, but after not having heard from them at all the first week, I wasn't sure what was going on, so I went down just in case. )I couldn't contact them on a Sunday before the Monday delivery).

If I were you, I'd just contact their customer service to confirm everything.

Were the chicks from here all healthy when they arrived?
I have never had any shipped ( I got mine from the feed store) and have heard horror stories. I would be heartbroken if I got dead chickies.

As I said, I cancelled my order from them. But I think they guarantee live delivery...? You should call and ask, because I'm not sure, and I don't want to steer you wrong.

I ordered my chicks from mypetchicken several weeks to a month ago. I actually decided to call, ask questions and then placed my order.

I knew it would be more money in shipping. I needed only 7 chicks, I needed females and I had an idea when I wanted them to arrive.

So I called way in advance. We talked and I happened to be calling at the right time. About a week before the planned ship date I was given, I called again. I wanted to check to see if everything was in order and that all was well.

I was told that they were to be born on the following Monday and that I would get them Wednesday. I let my post office know and they called me right away on Wednesday morning.

As posted in another post, they arrived in great shape and still continue to thrive.

All went well with my order and I am satisfied.

Overall, I am a happy customer and on the phone they were excellent. Called me back, answered questions and followed through with my order in a timely manner.
