These are what I plan to use. My chicks arrive in late April.View attachment 3006617View attachment 3006619
Don't tell anybody but I stopped at the not so ghetto Walmart and I'm glad I did because I spotted these:

I'm thinking these might work good for nest boxes and for my floof's room. I didn't buy any but I know where they're at.
How many are you getting and where are they coming from? These are what I plan to use. My chicks arrive in late April.
I keep one male in with each group of my laying hens. They all eat the layer crumble feed.Super informative, thanks for posting the spreadsheet!!!
Question, when I had chickens (laying hens) several years ago I fed them on a layer formula and offered extra calcium free-choice just in case. Is there any reason I shouldn't do the same with my quail once we get them? They won't eat it if they don't need it, right?
Aside--I plan to keep my adult male quails in with the laying hens. Will it hurt the males to eat the higher calcium feed intended for the hens? Should I try to find a feed with lower calcium and just give free choice supplemental calcium for the girls?
(Thanks for all the info you have shared--I just stalked the whole thread!!)
Mine aren't quail, just heavy brown eggers from Cackle. First time ever having chicks for me.How many are you getting and where are they coming from?
Oh okay. How many are you getting?Mine aren't quail, just heavy brown eggers from Cackle. First time ever having chicks for me.
The minimum at Cackle is 15, so likely one or two more, since they always seem to send an extra or three. Our coop is built, but I still have to get the run put together (chain link kennel panels) and built the poop decks & roosts.Oh okay. How many are you getting?
Is your coop built and ready to go?
