Do you watch for pasty Butt in the store bought Chicks?

Yep. None of them but ever developed it before death. I know there were a lot of dead babies in their brooders but I kind of assumed that's how feed store chick selling goes.

I would say that the death percentage for chicks is 10-20%. Maybe you just were unlucky and bought the few that were "destined" to die.

Shipped chicks to my location have lost as much as 50% for large fowl and 100% for bantams. 50% on heritage turkeys. My route is especially hard on chicks.

There shouldn’t be dead chicks in the brooders, sounds like something is going around there. I’d contact them and let them know, and stop buying chicks there. The individually hatched chick, I’d also keep an eye on and quarantine.
