Mystery Breed Chick?

She is SO cute! I'm thinking that she is definitely an EE.

We have seven easter eggers, four of whom have beards, and three who do not (the ones who don't are all boys, so I can't say exactly what that will do for egg color). Both of our girls have beards. The beard is a gene passed on from their Ameraucana roots (which most EE's have). It just isn't as dominant in ones who have maybe been bred more with other breeds, and have kinda had the Ameraucana "diluted".

Basically, what it boils down to, is all Easter Eggers are "mutts" meaning they aren't purebred. They are bred for egg color, not necessarily for showing like purebreds are. (which... as long as you don't feel the need to show her... isn't a big deal at all. They are still gorgeous birds.. you can still "show" her off to the BYC community ;) ).

A lot of them are bred with production breeds, and then blue egg layers, so that they will lay a lot of colored eggs. For example, some of mine are Rhode Island Red/Ameraucana mixes. So they can have all sorts of things mixed in there, there aren't real specific qualifications for a chicken to be an EE, though there can be signifiers of how strong the blue egg gene is (comb, beard, leg color, etc).

She's beautiful! :)

I'm sure you will absolutely love her! I love my mutts too! And, honestly, I've found my Easter Eggers (and Ameraucanas) to be very much like puppies...Lol!

Thank you for this information, but I already knew about this. I was wondering if people could determine and confirm whether or not my EE is bearded or not :)
Can you confirm if she is beardless?

I've got two beardless EEs that I think are just gorgeous! I don't really mind the beardless EEs Just so long as they lay me some nice green eggs!'

Nope, not yet. I have one that I thought was clean-faced as a chick by the lack of downy face puff but she does have a tiny bit of bearding after all and teeny little wattles (the bearding gene also suppresses wattle growth). You'll need to wait and see whether she's like that or entirely clean-faced.

Thank you!! This gives me hope for Penny and her potential beard!! She's around 5 weeks so hopefully she's too young to tell :)

This was my beardless EE, she laid the prettiest pale greenish-blue eggs (she laid my first backyard egg). I thought she was beautiful.

RIP Tracey!
