The whole thing started because I live in Fair Oaks, CA--a place where the chickens roam free in the "Village". I loved watching, photographing and feeding the chickens, and one day I went into a place of business on a rainy day and came out to find a chicken egg laid in the parking lot next to my tire. I picked it up, got an incubator and yesterday she hatched. There is a goofy and cute Polish that hangs around in that area, but I don't recall who else. Knowing that I would have a baby, I went to the feed store and got 5 other chicks 2 days ago. My newly hatched chick, Molly is the only mystery. She is in with the others and doing well, but I would really love to know what she is. Any ideas? Should I post somewhere else too, or is that frowned on?

So here the beautiful girl is, 14 hours old!

It is still pretty early to tell.
Thanks!

If there are many chickens roaming freely, it's probably a mix - it might become very obvious over time what breed(s) it is, but it also may be very difficult to tell. I hatched three babies from my barred rock roosters and my red star hens. One looks exactly like the barred rocks, and the other two are white with black spots just like little dalmatians - no idea how that happened! Mixed breeds are very unique though, and your chick is really cute!

That is exciting!! Thank you--I think she is cute too!!! She will be mixed, I am sure of that. I've got a better pic of her now. Here it is:
She is the silver one. She is 36 hours old here. Took them out in the sun for 10 mins today. They loved it.

Wow she looks a lot like the little grey chick I posted on here did when she was a few days old , only I got mine from a feed store. They both have the same color feet and legs as well, mine has started to get a little darker, but still mostly dove grey,
