Mystery chicks. . .anyone know what they might be?

What they probably meant was that those are the breeds they have in their mixed flock. Most folks who claim to sell Araucanas actually have Easter Eggers and you can get a wide variety of colors out of them.

Yea but easter eggers have green legs.. But since its probably a mixed flock maybe that's why they don't

Someone elsewhere suggested the black chick with black legs was a black sex link?

Possibly! I didn't even think of a black sex link. But if they just got it from their own mixed flock it probably isn't..

A barred hen and red rooster are used to make black sexlinks so it is possible to end up with a black sexlink chick if they have BR hens and a NH rooster (yours would be a pullet, in that case). But, a black rooster also produces black chicks so I wouldn't hold my breath.

If you bought eggs from a breeder who sells those breeds, I'd be surprised at the outcome. But from a mixed flock that likely is comprised of hatchery-bred stock? I wouldn't expect "pure" anything but rather would simply enjoy the surprises as they feather out.

Yes, going to enjoy the surprises! I've just been really curious about which is which until I realized it could just be mixed flock and so I'd have "mutts".
The only bad surprises will be roosters, can't keep 'em. :( so hoping for girls or the Roos will have to be taken to a new home.

I'd been wanting backyard chickens so when this opportunity to adopt came along I jumped at it. Any thoughts on pure breds vs mixed? Someday I'd ideally want a flock with Orphingtons, brahmas, Sussex and some bantams. Is there really a reason to prefer pure bred though besides aesthetic preferences?
