Mystery Duckling!~

WOW! They are the strangest looking (but cool!) ducks I've ever saw! Boy ducks sure do look different when they grow up. What is that growing? around them? Looks kinda like broccoflower. Probably good your not going to breed them from what I read about crested ducks.

The first time I bought ducks I got them at a farmers market. I got two mallards, two pekins, and one what they called a 'brown pekin'. One mallard that was the tiniest and cutest of them all turned out hugemongous, bigger than the pekins, with awkward turkey buzzard wings that got in its way, the poor thing must have been a genetically screwed mix breed, looked a little muscovy in the face. And the 'brown pekin' that was the biggest when young turned out to be a small khaki cambell female.

Osage Oranges, From the Tree's above them. Its all just useless stuff the tree drops Before the winter. The ducks seem to ignore it though along with the chickens. They just pick the grass around them sometimes they will find a bug on it and eat that. Yeah they are strange im not sure whats up with the Upright Tails, Both of them have it. I'm sure Geisha is part Mallard or Ruen, And im sure Spats i believe is part Magpie. But i've never seen a picture of either breed or any duck for that matter with high upright tails like they have. They were both Teenie Tiny when we got them, we snatched them up from a lackluster place. It really wasn't pretty wasn't planning on getting more ducks but we just felt so bad for them. So Yeah, They are mixed breeds I'm sure. We had a couple of pekins, have two Welsh Harliquins. The male Welshy hasn't got his green head yet. Even though he is older then Geisha. Who is close to 4 months old now.

I thought it could be some sort of flower, but I've never saw any like it, thought they were growing on the ground. I've never saw Osage Orange blossoms before.

They are the "what the heck kind is that" duck and we love them. They are also the quietest of the whole bunch rarely uttering a sound. It took forever to quack sex them due to their quiet natures.
Osage oranges are the bane of my existence in that yard. The broocoflowers hurl themselves from the tree randomly in the fall no doubt hitting the birds and dogs if they were unlucky enough to be below said tree. Sadly they are also the most worthless thing for being so cool looking. LOL I can not find one single practical use for them. They don't grow new trees, aren't edible, have no craft potential....and if you don't pick them up will KILL your lawnmower if you need to do those few last of the season mowings. They are hard as rocks and will eventually break down and rot if left in the yard. The only benefit of the dreaded tree is the huge branches that drape down each year make excellent kindling as it burns super hot. LOL
They are kept separated from the other ducks since the drake Harlequin is VERY possessive of "his girls' and is prone to chase and torment poor Geisha. So there is no chance they will be used for breeding. They are just adorable lawn ornaments :)

Yeah Geisha really is just a lawn ornament, Spats will produce eggs, But Geisha is cuddly (If you can catch him.) Hell fall asleep right in your lap no problem. Other then that, They are the quietest. And Sweetest of the bunch even though they don't like being touched very much, if you have them. They'll deal with it, But they are fairly easy to take care of. Spats eggs will be for eating purposes, still have no idea whats up with the upright tail. They kept the shape of the Rubber duckie, but lost the fuzzies of it LOL!
