Mystery Eggs - Broody Hatch-A-Long

Okay, so!! I have a black australorp mix named Miss Prissy that decided to go broody about a week ago. Currently, I don’t have the heart to break her nor are any of my hens’ eggs fertile ( the roosters have been down in horny jail for over a few months ). I was able to get some eggs from a friend and they’ll all be mystery breeds because I told them I wanted it to be a surprise ( as far as I know they’ll be all chicken eggs, but I know they have some ducks too ). They’ll be dropping those eggs off later today. I’m also working something out with a local BYC member that I have previously bought some hens off of. So, if it works out, I’ll be getting some definite cream legbar, olive egger & some CL x OE eggs too.

They brought the eggs! I only asked for 6, lol. It’s a good thing Miss Prissy is a big hen, but there might be some change in plans now.

I honestly don’t know. I don’t know why they even gave me 18 eggs when I only asked for 6 and I told them I only have one hen broody. I might have to put what can’t fit under her in an incubator. Though, she’s my second biggest hen.

If she is big you can give her maybe like 10 because my hen is small and she cover 7 eggs perfectly. She hatched 7 last time and this time she is sitting on some next 7 fertile eggs due very soon.

btw I think you should check out the thread that pippin commented because a lot of people that are hatching with mana hens are there with different hatch date

I'd give her half of the eggs, incubate the rest, and foster the chicks to her when they hatch.

I ordered 1 egg, I got 2
after they were infertile, I ordered 4 eggs, I got 6- It kinda worked out though since 4\6 of thos eggs were actually fertile and alive so I ended up with 4 anyway

This is her with ALL of the eggs under her, but I ended up taking 7 out because I felt like they weren’t properly under her.

I’m going to go back out in a bit to make sure they’re all getting warm under her. The rest of the eggs are in the incubator.
