Mystery Girl

Hmmm.... I'm not sure that's a single comb either. It looks more like a pea comb to me.

It looks like a pea comb to me, but it's still so small that it's hard to see, and she wants to peck the phone when I take pics, it's hard to get a good shot. This could be an example of what people mean when they say "hatchery quality" chicken, she might just be what my dad always called a "Heinz 57" :) Someone suggested she might be an Olive Egger, but without a beard or muff I guess I wouldn't know until she starts laying. Ha! I guess you can see why I asked, I'm so clueless!

Not all olive eggers, or easter eggers, have beards or muffs. I have an ee that doesn't have a beard or muffs.
Now, because it doesn't have points like this:

And looks more like this.... I think its a pea comb.

It could be a modified pea comb. In which case it would indicate a cross. Is it possible that she is a Black Sumatra? They should have a dark face, but it's not uncommon for hatchery-bred stock to have red faces instead...

The hatchery does sell Black Sumatra, so it's possible. Her body shape reminds me of a Sumatra, and she is a bit more flighty and active like I guess that breed usually is, but as a chick her markings and coloring didn't look like a Sumatra to me (I'm no expert though, obviously! All I've ever had before this batch were bantam Ameraucanas). I don't have very good pics of her as a chick, this is the best I've got. I guess if she lays white eggs I can decide she's probably supposed to be a Black Sumatra?

I don't think BJG either. Looks like a pullet to me. What age?

Here are some links to pics we took when we picked up 6 breeds, including BJG:

Week 4

Here they are around 4 or 5 months old. A male and a female BJG. Also, BJG have yellow pigment on the bottom of their feet. They are notably bigger than the rest of the chickens we have.
