Mystery Pot

I'm sure it'd do a great job on any bean-y mexican dish. It's really very interesting how the spread of utensils and ideas comes about. It's not often you see a direct reference to how someone discovered something and took it somewhere else, like with that french fellow bringing something to France from the US. I bet the south americans leapt on the idea when/if they got it from the chinese and you can imagine it coming up to California via South America. (the link seems to have disappeared, I thought I'd added it? I'll try to find it again...)

There are some more recipes on the "french guy"'s site. The Chinese chicken soup seems to have more "normal" ingredients?

I checked that site and I will give it a try. I have most of the ingredients on hand.

I sure missed where the pot came from. I thought it was Mexican but it was Chinese. My mother cooked a lot of Chinese food too.

Ah. I still wouldn't be surprised to find a similar utensil in some South American village....

Your mum sounds like a fabulous cook... I love good chinese, and I love mexican, it's making me hungry just imagining something yummy.
