Second part of first step. Make 4 patch blocks out of the strips that you have just made.
Grab two of the segments, aligning them right sides together along their long edges, but with contrasting colors opposite each other (like-colors will be at a diagonal). Sew together along the long edge to create a four-patch unit.
Press the new seam allowance to the side (or press it open if you feel that side-pressing makes the unit too bulky). You can also often fan-out the center seam intersections of a four-patch unit and press allowances in a somewhat circular pattern. Experiment a bit to see what works best for you.
Make a total of 72 four-patch units. Pile them up in a group we'll call "A."
Directions for Part B are up, if you want to see them. I am still working on the above. Janet has increase the dark blue strip cutting directions from 9 to 10. So you will need to cut one additional strip for that color.
