It think it's the barred pattern. Majority of the Genetic Hackle birds are some Barred variation.
I meant to say the value of having a longer hackle feather is that they can tie several flies from just one feather. So a cape with longer hackles is more valuable than a short one… Considering the feather quality is equal.

Got lots of high quality feathering on my birds, Silky smooth, Shiny, & strong. Feathering is one of my main focuses actually. No one wants a feather that's brittle, lacks luster, & texture.

Got various lengths, but not super long. Lengths included Short/tight, Medium/Average, & Long-ish.
 
The chickens had a close call with a hawk earlier today. They dodged it, & took cover just in time.
I'm free ranging the Malays, & project Mini American Gamefowl today. Luckily they're smart, & predator savvy.
