naked butt chick!? what's wrong?

I purchased some chicks a few days ago, and one of the little guys has no down below his vent. I don't know why this is or if I should do something about it. Please offer any advice or knowledge that you have, thank you

I've noticed this a few times in my broiler chicks. I have no idea why they are like that, and I've tried to keep an eye on the chicks to see if it's a problem. Unfortunately, in at least two of the chicks that had bald bottoms, they seemed to have health problems (heart, maybe?). It seemed that the other few got over it because I lost track of them. These were broiler chicks that had noticeably bald bottoms. Broilers are known for bald spots, but in a few batches there were 1 or 2 that were completely bald and stood out from the rest.

Do you have a picture? What breed of chicks are these? Some baldness can just be due to loose stools or the fact that they're still very, very young.

I don't know...........but that's exactly what my broilers looked like. One of the broilers I noticed that on grew to have heart issues. He was always smaller and had a somewhat blue tinge. Another grew just fine and I lost track of it. I've never seen a regular breed chick with that. Hopefully, someone can chime in here with some info.

Does it seem healthy other than the bare bottom?

Yeah he seems fine, thanks for caring cause nobody else has. And he does have a couple blue down feathers on his belly between his knees

Keep an eye on him and post how he does. Since he's acting fine it's probably just fine. Post an update as he grows! Best of luck with your new chicks!

I had a mutt chick with the same thing, she was much smaller than the others so i raised her inside with another chick (she also had the blue tinge), she is 3months old now and seems to be doing fine the feathers have almost all come in now and i think she just needed a little extra care I hope your chick is the same

I have a 36 hour newly hatched Silkie chick with the same problem. I believe it is a condition called rough navel. It has something to do with the chick hatching late and the navel being irritated. This is a guess on my part. Anyway..My chick not only has a bare bottom he was constantly fussing with it. Constantly preening the bare area. The skin was getting oozy. He was doing his poo just fine and acting healthy in every other way. I took a Teaspoon of Nu Stock and dipped a Q-tip in it. I carefully applied it all around the bare skin and his vent. I also added UN-ACV in the water. Just a tablespoon or so to a pint. The chick didn't like the goopy Nu Stock on his bum and spent a couple hours trying to pick and rub it off. Frantically running around. He drank a lot of the UN-ACV treated water. I thought the chick would be dead this morning. Surprise! The chicks bum is not weepy any more and the chick is behaving normally and not fussing with his bare bottom any longer. The Nu Stock has formed a crust and dried the weepy parts up.
I will use this treatment next time I see a bare bottomed chick.
