Help! Why are some of my hens getting defeathered??
They dont have mites...we keep checking. We've been putting diatomaceous earth of their butts and it's helping for some, but not others.
Any tips or understanding why this is happening would be great.
Thanks!

Diotomaeceous Earth does nothing to mites or lice.
Can you get permethrine based powder or spray?
What's their diet?
How old are they? Are they molting?
How big is their space for how many birds?

Hi there! So they are a year old. We have 30 hens and they have a 9x12 coop and a 20x30 covered outdoor run. I would think that would be plenty of space?
They get fed Dumor Crumbles with Oyster Shells. We give them HydroHen in their water as well.
We started with the Diotomaeceous Earth a couple of months ago.
I'm just not too sure what else to do. Some are getting all of their feathers back. Some are still pretty naked, like the one in the picture.
We check them for mites, but we don't see anything.
We've also separated a "not so nice" hen that was picking on the other ones. She's residing by herself now.
Any help would be appreciated. Or...what should I do looking for?

If it's basic dumor, I'd get the dumor chick feed for extra protein.
Stop the d.e, it could be making it worse.
Do you see any mites or nits?

Thank you for getting back to me. It's the Dumor crumbles with added protein. Are you talking about giving them chick (baby) crumbles? I was told by someone to stop giving that to them once they start laying eggs.
I don't see any mites or lice on them. They are just de-feathered and their skin is a little pink.
I could get the spray you were talking about and try that.

Yes, baby crumbles. They can eat it their whole lives as long as they have access to oyster shell.
Which dumor with added protein?

Kalmbach Feeds Full Plume Feathering Feed.
I haven't use this. But I do use Kalmbach grower feed and Layer. I really like it. I plan on using Full Plume when the chickens are going through molting.
