Naked Neck/Turken Thread

Thank you! I do need to work on being able to process our own birds. We have a few EE cockerels that we will be processing if no one buys them. Someone did buy my favorite so it should be a little easier.

Not that I would have been able to pick him out of a post process line up anyways...

I'm not to worried about combs since apparently the only person around here I have to please is myself.

It might be easier to sell a cleaned neck cross that lays colored eggs, maybe people will look past the neck and just look at the eggs. I'm glad that our hens have started laying larger eggs. Their pullet eggs were very small. I can't find the site that has the turken hatching eggs I was wanting to order!

I finally got over the hesitation to butcher when the hens were stressed out by too many roosters and cockerels. It also really helped ease my guilt seeing how the flock was so much better off almost immediately afterwards. Then it just got easier each time. Still to this day though, a slight uneasy feeling comes up every time the ax is picked up... it goes away pretty quickly after the deed is done.

It's funny, some insist on as naked necks as possible, yet others stick to the large 'bibbed' birds and find the small bowties or total bare necks "too naked"... definitely don't assume the clean necks will sell faster because of this.

What was it about the site with eggs you wanted? It might ring some bells in this thread....

I just got two little naked neck chicks! They're so adorable! I did kind of regret getting them at first because at the feed store, I thought they were adorable but when I got home and looked up a pic of the adults, I thought they were really ugly. I'm definitely warming up to the now though! The first is Dory and the second is Cecelia.

DDD did you receive a PM from me ? OR NOT ? There is one in my send box so I figured that you did receive it ?
